Jeremy Clarkson tipped for surprise career move – and Gary Lineker could follow suit
Jeremy Clarkson has been tipped to make his first foray into the world of politics - and some have predicted outgoing Match of the Day host Gary Lineker to follow in his footsteps.
Shortly after Rachel Reeves unveiled her first budget as the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Clarkson took to X to air his dismay at the announcement that farm estates worth more than £1 million will see a 20 per cent inheritance tax charge from April 2026, a tax which farmers had previously been exempt from.
He wrote: "Farmers. I know that you have been shafted today. But please don't despair. Just look after yourselves for five short years and this shower will be gone."

The former Top Gear presenter is set to stand shoulder to shoulder with fellow farmers next Tuesday (November 19) as thousands are set to descend on Westminster in protest at the government's most recent budget.
After Clarkson's feelings about the new budget were aired, pollster James Kanagasooriam tipped him to make a Trump like rise in his political career, with his post on X reading: "Genuinely think that if Jeremy Clarkson entered politics now - it could be a moment. Britain’s Trump moment - but far more English and less authoritarian"
Meanwhile, the BBC formerly announced that Gary Lineker's tenure on the much-loved Match of the Day would be coming to end next May, but their highest earner would continue his association with the channel until 2026, with him hosting the FA Cup and the World Cup.
After becoming involved in a number of political issues in recent years, Ed Cumming from the Daily Telegraph believes that the former England international could be set to follow in Jeremy Clarkson's shoes, by pursuing a career in politics.
Mr Cumming wrote: "Like the former Top Gear star, Lineker has broad appeal, proven business nous and doesn't need the money. If he wants it, the road is clear for him to occupy a Left-of-Centrist-Dad, anti-Clarkson, persona writ large."
Lineker's relationship with the BBC became fractured in March 2023 when the host was briefly suspended by the broadcaster after he described the former government's policy on asylum seekers as "immeasurably cruel". However, he was later reinstated in his role.
In a brief statement after his Match of the Day departure was confirmed by the BBC on Tuesday (November 12), the presenter thanked his employers as he said: "I'm delighted to continue my long association with BBC Sport and would like to thank all those who made this happen,".
