Jeremy Kyle has spoken for the first time about his controversial engagement to the ex-nanny of his kids.

He assumed presenting duties on Good Morning Britain this week with Kate Garraway, after Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid took a week’s break during the half-term.

Having previously been criticised for being romantically linked to the woman that was hired to look after his kids only a few years ago, the TV host, 52, has now spoken about the engagement and how the pair are feeling.

Only this week has Jeremy come under fire during his first day presenting GMB, where viewers blasted his shouty behaviour and were calling for Piers to return.

He described his relationship with 36-year-old Vicky Burton as ‘very happy’.

‘All I did was get engaged – it’s very nice and I’m very happy,’ Jeremy said, as he attempted to play down speculation. He added: ‘I’ve just done the most romantic thing which is to present a beautiful lady with a ring.’

But their first Valentine’s Day as an engaged couple, since he popped the question in January, will be sent apart because of his GMB duties that will see him up at half two in the morning. ‘It’s not going to be that romantic for any of us,’ he playfully admitted.

According to Hello, the couple intend to get married on a Barbados beach, where Jeremy has a home. Despite the talk show host already having four children – three, Alice, 14, Ava, 12, and Henry, 8, with his most recent former wife, Carla, and a 26-year-old with first wife Kirsty – they intend to start their own family.

Regarding Carla and his split and according to the Mirror, she cites reasons for divorce on grounds of his ‘unreasonable behaviour’, which saw an end to their 13-year marriage back in 2015.

Jeremy and Vicky only went public with their relationship a year ago, with the engagement coming 12 months after that.
