Three months after The Jeremy Kyle Show was permanently taken off air following the death of one of its guests, ITV has now confirmed when Jeremy Kyle will return.

Speaking at the Edinburgh TV Festival, ITV boss Kevin Lygo revealed whether the presenter will still feature as part of the channel's schedule, admitting that Kyle should not return to his former 9.30am slot.

Lygo said that, currently, ITV doesn't know what it will do with The Jeremy Kyle Show's timeslot, but that "whatever [Jeremy] does next, it shouldn't be" there (via The Mirror).

As well as confirming ITV's "ongoing commitment to The Kyle Files", which is set to return next year, Lygo said that they are in the process of "piloting something" with the presenter.

"We will just have to have a look because [Jeremy] is a consummate broadcaster and it would be absolutely wrong to apportion blame of the show against the presenter of it," he argued.

"We don't hold him in any bad way. We will look to find another show with him, but I think it is unlikely it will go in the same slot."

The decision to axe The Jeremy Kyle Show was made after one of its guests, Steve Dymond, died shortly after his appearance aired.

In a statement, ITV said that it was "the right time for the show to end" after 14 years on air. "Everyone at ITV's thoughts and sympathies are with the family and friends of Steve Dymond."
