Jeremy Vine says 'lesson learned' after having package taken by 'porch pirate'

Jeremy Vine has said he’s learnt a lesson after having a parcel containing Christmas presents taken from his front garden.

The presenter shared two videos to Twitter from different vantage points of his property being supposedly being targeted by someone he dubbed a ‘Porch Pirate’, noting the incident had made him reconsider where he will designate a 'safe place' to leave parcels.

The videos show a package being placed into a large grey storage container by a delivery driver after no one was home to receive it before a stranger takes it from the bin just over half an hour later, according to Vine, 56.

“I got hit by a Porch Pirate a couple of days ago. At 1125 the @dhlexpressuk guy leaves a delivery in an agreed place; at 1207 the Pirate appears,” he said alongside the original video.

“Parcel stolen, box found ripped open 100yds away by kind neighbour,” Vine added.

In a follow-up tweet showing a different angle of the incident, Vine claimed to have found out “exactly” how the theft took place as he noted the passerby that had seen the parcel being placed in the box by the delivery driver later returned to make off with it.

“I’ve worked out EXACTLY how the ‘Porch Pirate’ struck my family in Christmas week…and okay, lesson learned, that’s the last night I nominate a large open box as my safe space. Take a look,” he wrote.

The video then showed the individual who retrieved the parcel from the box knocking on Vine’s front door, with Vine speculating that they were intending to “pose as the delivery guy” had someone answered.

In text on the video, Vine finished by saying: “If he’s watching…I hope you enjoyed our presents mate.”

Back in October, Vine shared footage taken near his home of a group of anti-vaccine campaigners who turned up to issue him with an “anti-vaxx writ”.

He explained he wasn’t home at the time so they gave the notice to his wife. He said they were “polite” but that he had been left “unnerved”.
