Jessica Chastain has already publicly revealed that she's definitely up for taking on the role of the adult Bev in IT: Chapter 2, and now it looks like that is one dream casting that's one step closer to actually happening.

The younger Bev actress, Sophia Lillis, has already said she wanted Chastain to play her adult self and speaking last year Chastain said that she hopes they can "make it happen" too.

And now, according to Variety, Chastain is officially in negotiations for the role.

It may still be very early days yet, but now it's out there we're going to be very disappointed if it doesn't actually happen.

IT: Chapter 2 will serve as the follow up to last year's horror smash hit IT from Andy Muschietti and picks up with the Losers' Club 27 years after the events of the film.

Muschietti will be back to direct the follow-up, which will be written by Gary Dauberman, while Bill Skarsgård will be returning as Pennywise the Clown too, and Muschietti has said previously that Chapter 2 will see the young versions of the gang return and the timelines intertwine, including meaty flashbacks.

Chastain is the first big name associated with the sequel, but we should get a confirmed cast sooner rather than later as the film is scheduled to begin production this summer.

As for what we can expect from the film itself, Skarsgård revealed last year that Chapter 2 will be "actively different" from the first film.

"I think there might be worth exploring sort of the psychological aspects of horror, but also maybe the sort of cosmological existence of this being," he said.

"What is he, and where does he come from? It's hardly answered in the novel. I mean, it's very abstract. And I kind of like that. IT could be almost a sort of [serialised] surrealistic psychedelic trip if you go into the mind of Pennywise."

We'll find out when the film is released next year, with the current release date scheduled in for September 6, 2019.
