Jessica Jones and Breaking Bad actress Krysten Ritter has snagged a role in Netflix movie Night Books.

Adapted from JA White's horror-fantasy kids book, this one is directed by Brightburn's David Yarovesky and will follow scary tale obsessive Alex, who's imprisoned by a witch in New York City.

Soon enough, Alex is introduced to fellow abductee Yasmin and must tell a new creepy story every night in order to stay alive.

According to Deadline, Ritter is onboard as the cruel witch, while 11-year-old Winslow Fegley and Lidya Jewett play the two youngsters.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness' Sam Raimi is producing alongside Robert Tapert through Ghost House Pictures.

Night Books continues the streaming service's trend of adapting horror-flavoured adventures into feature-length projects – the most recent being A Babysitter's Guide to Monster Hunting.

Elsewhere, Ritter previously spoke of her cancelled Marvel series Jessica Jones to Digital Spy and other press, on how it differed to the studio's cinematic blockbusters.

"I appreciate the show is so adult and so grounded, that it allows us to explore storylines that are very real and human and grounded," she said.

"We deal with trauma and sexual assault and PTSD. I don't think those issues are being tackled as much in the films."
