Jessica Jones season 3 marks the end of Marvel's Netflix endeavours (for now, at least), following the cancellation of Daredevil, Iron Fist and Luke Cage – but is Krysten Ritter's swansong as the super-strong private investigator the send-off fans would have hoped for?
According to early reviews, the answer to that is mostly no, with the majority claiming that Marvel's Netflix universe has gone out with a whimper, not a bang.

"Perhaps, if this wasn’t the final season of the series we would be having a different conversation about where the new arc falls within the series’ overall story. But, as a final season arc, it simply doesn’t hold the kind of water it needs to, to take the show to the kind of satisfying conclusion fans are going to want."

"By the end of the 13 episodes, nearly all of the show’s characters have become more crystallized, focused versions of themselves, but it doesn’t quite feel as if they’ve truly evolved the way one might expect to see in a season of cape television."

However, it's not all negative, with some reviews praising the final season for going back to its "gritty, noir-tinged" routes.

"Jessica Jones Season 3 gets back to what the show is good at: gritty, noir-tinged detective stuff. Despite her powers of super strength and semi-invulnerability, Jessica tends to lay pretty low, using these powers mostly to pry into cases by intimidating suspects or punching through locked doors. And Season 3 is full of that stuff, with great pacing that will make you want to keep watching, at least through the first eight episodes."

"It doesn’t always work and does suffer from the same pacing issues that have plagued, well, pretty much all of these shows. But when it hits, it hits just like its main heroine; violent, flawed, and willing to go where her more moral superhuman peers wouldn’t dare."
Jessica Jones' first two seasons are now streaming on Netflix, and the third will arrive on June 14.
