One billion viewers tuned in to watch British pop star Jessie J win the Chinese equivalent of The X Factor over the weekend.

In a controversial career move, the former judge of The Voice has been competing against other professional artists on the Chinese reality show, SINGER, in a bid for international stardom.

Previously unknown to the show’s Chinese audience, Jessie J is the first contestant from outside of Asia to be crowned winner of the competition.
