Jessie J has given an update on her Meniere’s disease diagnosis, saying a “dramatic version of the truth” was circulating.

The Who You Are singer had shared that she was suffering with the inner ear complaint that was diagnosed at an ear hospital on Christmas Eve, saying that the tinnitus and vertigo caused by the condition had left her finding it difficult to sing or walk in a straight line.

But Jessie clarified that her condition was not anywhere near as serious as reported in an Instagram post where she said: “I don’t want anyone thinking I lied about what actually happened.”

Jessie wrote: “I have often in the past been open and honest about health challenges I have faced. Big or small. This was no different.

“BUT... Since going live I have watched the media take 3 words from this live and create a very dramatic version of the truth. I’m not surprised BUT I also know I too have the power to set the story straight.”

The singer posted an edited-down version of the live clip where she had talked about her ear problem, annotating parts of it to say that she hadn’t been hospitalised.

In the section where she talked about feeling deaf in one ear, she added the comment: “Anyone who has suffered with Meniere’s will know what I mean.”

As she spoke about struggling to walk in a straight line, she added a note saying: “Walked into a door to be exact. LOL.”

Jessie also thanked fans for their kindness and advice in her latest post.

She added: “I wasn’t aware of Menieres before now and I hope this raises awareness for all the people who have been suffering way longer or worse than I.”

Meniere’s disease is a disorder of the inner ear that leaves sufferers feeling dizzy and with a ringing sound in their ear.
