Jets WR Perriman could miss some games with sprained ankle

NEW YORK (AP) — New York Jets wide receiver Breshad Perriman could be sidelined for some games after spraining his left ankle against San Francisco on Sunday.

Perriman left the 31-13 loss midway through the second quarter and didn't return.

“He may miss a game or possibly two,” coach Adam Gase said Monday.

The Jets are at Indianapolis next Sunday and then have a short week with a Thursday night game at home against Denver.

Perriman was one of the Jets' top free agent signings this winter, giving him a one-year deal worth $8 million with $6 million guaranteed. The speedy receiver was expected to give Sam Darnold and the offense a deep threat and someone who could replace Robby Anderson in that role.

Perriman missed some time in training camp with a knee injury, but returned in time for the regular season. He had two catches for 12 yards against the 49ers, and has just five receptions for 29 yards this season.

Despite the low production, his absence looms large for the short-handed Jets. Jamison Crowder missed the game Sunday with a hamstring injury and is uncertain to play at Indianapolis on Sunday.

The only healthy receivers on the active roster are Chris Hogan and Braxton Berrios. Josh Malone was elevated from the practice squad for the first two games. Rookie Denzel Mims remains on injured reserve while recovering from a hamstring injury.

The Jets could also be without center Connor McGovern, who left the game after injuring a hamstring and is considered “week to week” by Gase. He was replaced by Josh Andrews, who could get the start against his former team if McGovern can't play.

“I have confidence in him being in there,” Gase said. “We'll just kind of see how Connor is, obviously. If he ends up going this week, we've just got to make sure it's not one of those deals where he only could play a few plays and then he's out of the game. We need to have confidence that he can make the duration of the game.”

In other injuries, cornerback Quincy Wilson is in the concussion protocol, and cornerback Arthur Maulet is dealing with a groin strain.
