Jim Carrey has hit back at the wrongful death lawsuit filed against him by Cathriona White’s mother, Brigid Sweetman.

Jim and Cathriona dated on-and-off between 2012 and 2015, with Cathriona taking her own life last September.

Brigid claimed that Jim is responsible for her daughter’s death because he gave the star three STDs throughout their relationship, leaving her suicidal. Now the Hollywood actor has hit back at the allegations, claiming that Brigid asked him to buy her a new home last year as she was feeling “suicidal”.

According to TMZ, Brigid was receiving death threats and having her home vandalised with the mother believing that she was being blamed for Cathriona’s death because of a “horrific and degrading” Facebook post that she’d left on her daughter’s birthday.

Jim has now alleged that Brigid told him: “I am on the point of killing myself”, asking him to buy her a new home – and when Jim declined, she became “angry and bitter”.

Jim’s lawyers have claimed that Brigid only filed a lawsuit against him for her own financial gain as she “only loves money”, Jim has also claimed that Cathriona admitted to making up the STD accusations when they got back together in 2014, claiming that she’d only said that because she was upset when they split.

In the paperwork, Jim says: “I loved her face. I loved her Irish voice. I loved the way she smelled.”

He also provided images of their “beautiful 10-month relationship” which was “filled with sweetness, caring and affection”.

Cathriona’s ex-husband, Mark Burton, is also filing a lawsuit against Jim and responded to Jim’s claims against Brigid in a statement.

He said: “Earlier today, Jim Carrey filed a baseless motion with the court as part of his continued attack on a grieving mother. His conduct is disgusting and dishonest. Who attacks a mother of a dead girl?

“Carrey and his ‘fixer’ lawyers are trying to deceive the media and the public. They are making up facts they know to be untrue in an effort to save Carrey’s career, which was over when he lied about not having STDs.

“Why will they not release the 2013 STD test results that Carrey took under the false name “Jose Lopez”? They should release the results and let people decide for themselves who lacks credibility.

“Carrey is a fraud and when he is forced to testify under oath, the ugly truth will be laid bare. We are confident that the court will see through the nonsense Carrey is peddling.”
