Jim Parsons (aka Sheldon Cooper) has revealed that there is an extremely cute reason why the actor who plays his younger self on Young Sheldon is allowed to do the show.

Iain Armitage, who takes on the role of the socially inept genius from The Big Bang Theory in his early years, is apparently very, very nice, according to Parsons.

The star appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, recalling a conversation backstage where someone asked if Armitage was nice in real life.

"'Is he not nice in person?' And I was like, 'First off, he's 9!'" the actor said.

"I said, 'It's funny you asked, because he and his mother have an agreement. I've heard her say to him, 'What's our agreement?' And he's like, 'As long as I'm a nice person I can keep doing this'.

"Is that not the best agreement?"

Well, that's some ace parenting right there.

Meanwhile, Big Bang Theory writer Steve Holland has been teasing the outcome to Sheldon's cliffhanger proposal to Amy (Mayim Bialik) last season.

"Chuck [Lorre]'s piece of advice was, 'Don't be afraid to try new things. The worst thing you can do in season 11 in a show is fall back on what's always worked in the past'," he said.

"Even though it's a cliffhanger, I think most people assume the answer will probably be yes."

Young Sheldon and The Big Bang Theory air on CBS from September 25.
