Jim Parsons has explained why he won't participate in a revival of The Big Bang Theory, at least for now.

The actor starred as Sheldon Cooper in all seasons of the sitcom, and he executive-produced and narrated the prequel series spinoff Young Sheldon – he also appeared on-screen in the finale.

But in terms of getting the cast back together for a revival or reboot of the main show, Parsons told Who's Talking to Chris Wallace? host Chris Wallace that he's not currently interested.

"As we sit here now, no. But also I never say never to anything, because life just changes so much," Parsons explained.

"One of the things is that it was so special as what it was and as what it is, and they call it lightning in a bottle for a reason. You can be certain [a revival] wouldn't be that, and so why would we be doing it?"

"I don't know, that's that's how I feel on that right now," he added. "But like I say, God willing, life is very long."

He added that the show, and Sheldon, are an "insane, fortune blessing", which is something that he "wouldn't have said that 10 years ago".

The Big Bang universe is still carrying on, however, as Young Sheldon is getting its own spinoff: Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage, which is premiering in just a few days. Just the other day, it was reported that three stars from the original show are set to appear.

The Big Bang Theory complete boxset is available on DVD and Blu-ray. Young Sheldon airs on E4 in the UK, while Georgie & Mandy begins October 17 on CBS in the US. Who's Talking to Chris Wallace? streams on Max in the US.
