Jimmy Kimmel dares Trump to hate-tweet the Oscars

From Digital Spy

Over at the Oscars, host Jimmy Kimmel got down to some trolling by sending out a tweet to Donald Trump live on stage.

"We're more than two hours into the show and Donald Trump hasn't tweeted once. I'm starting to get worried about him," Jimmy teased, before taking out his phone and posting on his Twitter account.

"Hey @realDonaldTrump u up?," he wrote, and he genuinely did it, with a follow-up tweet reading: "#Merylsayshi."

Funnily enough, it hasn't provoked Trump into posting about the show. Well, yet anyway.

Earlier in the show, Jimmy took aim at the president in his hilarious monologue with several gags, including this gem: "I want to say thank you to President Trump. Remember last year when they thought the Oscars were racists?"

He didn't let Trump forget about his "overrated" dig at acting legend Meryl Streep, either.

"One actress stands out for her many uninspiring and overrated performances. Meryl Streep has phoned it in in more than 50 films in her lacklustre career," Jimmy joked. "Nice dress by the way – is that an Ivanka?"

As expected, it wasn't only Jimmy that referenced President Trump, with Gael García Bernal passionately stating he's against "any kind of wall that would separate us".

But perhaps the most powerful statement came from someone who wasn't even at the Oscars.

Asghar Farhadi won Best Foreign Language Film for The Salesman but boycotted the ceremony over Trump's now-stalled travel ban, with a statement being read on his behalf.

"My absence is out of respect for the people of my country and those of other six nations whom have been disrespected by the inhuman law that bans entry of immigrants to the U.S," he stated.

"Dividing the world into the US and our enemies categories creates fear."
