As strange as JJ Abrams' Cloververse is becoming, it turns out the sci-fi legend had to cut something from The Cloverfield Paradox that was too out-there for audiences.

The Cloververse's three movies so far have seemed unconnected for the most part, with little, mysterious moments hinting at links between them – and Abrams was apparently told that one of his proposed links was a step too far.

"During the spacewalk sequence and all this debris is flying around, there was a truck that was going around," Abrams said during an Empire podcast. "And it was from 10 Cloverfield Lane, it was Stambler's truck."

Director Dan Trachtenberg's 2016 movie 10 Cloverfield Lane took everyone by surprise, only being revealed as an official Cloververse movie when it hit cinemas, turning out to be a sequel/prequel (we don't even think Abrams knows) to the 2008 found-footage horror.

The truck in question was used by the villainous Howard to run Mary Elizabeth Winstead's Michelle off the road. John Goodman's sinister character then kidnapped Michelle and locked her in his underground bunker.

Considering that 10 Cloverfield Lane fared A LOT better with the critics than Paradox, why wouldn't you want to link to it?

According to Abrams, the decision to leave the truck out of The Cloverfield Paradox was a case of breaking a few Easter Eggs to make an omelette.

"It was one of those things that once again, some people called it out as being too crazy," he confessed.

"I loved it, because I thought it was just so bonkers, but some people felt it was too distracting; I thought it was amazing."

A fourth Cloververse movie is of course on the way now, and it sounds like it will be in tune with the other sequels so far, as Abrams has already called it "crazy".
