JJ Abrams is set to raise Nazi zombies from the dead with his new movie Overlord.

The Star Wars: The Force Awakens director's studio Bad Robot is producing the new World War II movie, based on an idea that JJ himself and Billy Ray (The Hunger Games) came up with.

Ray has penned the script, while Son of a Gun director Julius Avery will take charge of the movie.

Overlord follows two American paratroopers who land behind enemy lines on a mission to destroy a German Radio Tower outside of Normandy during D-Day.

However, while there, they discover supernatural forces resulting from Nazi experiments.

With Abrams guiding, expects twists, turns and monsters aplenty, a la Cloverfield and Lost.

Nazi zombies are not an entirely new thing, having appeared in various video games and B-movies, though with Abrams and big money behind this one, we're certainly intrigued as to where it could go creatively.

Variety also reports that talent is already being courted to play the two paratrooper leads in Overlord.

Abrams has been pretty busy of late, producing a whole load of new projects including The God Particle, which is due out this year and is actually the next instalment in the Cloverfield series.

It was also recently announced that he would be taking West End comedy The Play That Goes Wrong to Broadway.
