Popular restaurant chain Rudy's Pizza Napoletana is inviting job applications after confirming it will be open in Newcastle before the end of the year.

The pizza specialist, promising an authentic slice of Naples, has revealed it is almost time for its eagerly-awaited launch in the city on what it describes as a 'unique site'. Its new restaurant, where it will be making pizzas in the traditional Neapolitan way, will be in the city's famous Grey Street, becoming only the second Rudy's in the North East following its debut in the centre of Durham last December.

It is on the look-out for staff to help run the new 100-cover restaurant which, in keeping with its 'neighbourhood pizzeria' ethos, is set to offer relaxed dining within a signature minimalist and industrial-style setting. Rudy's first opened in Manchester in 2015 and now has around 30 pizzerias nationwide, having become renowned for a menu of classics pizzas such as the Marinara, Margherita and Calabrese which are said to have originated in Naples - the 'birthplace of pizza' - alongside rotating specials from around the world.

Its 'pizzaioli' chefs use dough made fresh in-house each day from Caputo 00: Italy's highest-rated pizza flour. The dough takes more than 24 hours to make and the pizza toppings include ingredients from Naples itself, such as Fior di Latte mozzarella cheese and San Marzano tomatoes which are grown on fields next to Mount Vesuvius.

In keeping with Neapolitan traditions, the pizzas are then cooked to order in a special Stefano Ferrara oven for just about 60 seconds, which Rudy's says creates a light pizza with an airy raised edge, called a cornicione crust. Newcastle diners will also find some quality drinks on the menu, such as Italian spritzes, Italian and local lagers plus classic cocktails.

Neal Bates, of Rudy’s Newcastle, has said: “Newcastle is famed for its vibrant night life and hospitality and we can’t wait to bring Rudy’s to ‘the toon’ and become a part of that. The team is so excited to join this community, get to know our neighbours and welcome both residents and visitors to enjoy a slice of Naples right here in Newcastle.”

There are around 30 new positions to fill in the restaurant, including a manager and skilled pizzaiolo roles. The company, which also has a 'pizzaiolo academy' to teach the classic Neapolitan style to both experienced chefs and first-time pizzaioli, will be hosting recruitment days for the mix of full-time and part-time positions closer to the opening date and it invites anyone interested in applying to email careers@rudyspizza.co.uk with their CV.
