These are the jobs where people are most likely to smoke pot

In America, dozens of states have decriminalised marijuana for medical use – and in states such as Colorado, the drug is fully legalised.

In states where it’s fully legal, it’s meant that the government has been able to gather data on who actually uses it – via official surveys.

So who does smoke dope?

Young white men, is the main answer, with people aged 18-25 most likely to smoke (29.6%), and men more likely to smoke than women (17.2% compared to 11.2%).

White people are most likely to smoke the drug (15.3%), followed by Hispanic people at 15.1% and African-Americans at 14.5%.

In terms of jobs, people in the food preparation industry were most likely to smoke marijuana – with 30.1% indulging.

People who work in ‘arts, design, entertainment, sports, and media’ are the second-most likely to indulge, with 27.5% admitting to being current smoker.

People in healthcare, perhaps unsurprisingly, are less likely to smoke, with just 3.1% indulging.

The paper says, ‘Among safety-sensitive occupations (those in which workers have responsibility for their own safety or the safety of others), prevalences of current marijuana use among workers who acknowledged using marijuana or hashish in the preceding 30 days and were employed in Construction and Extraction (16.5%); Farming, Fishing, and Forestry (16.5%); and Healthcare Support (15.8%) were higher than the overall state prevalence of 14.6% among employed adults.’
