White House hopeful Joe Biden has released an election campaign advert claiming the “world is laughing at” Donald Trump — after a video of Nato leaders apparently joking about the US President went viral.

The Democrat’s advert includes snippets of a conversation between Justin Trudeau, Emmanuel Macron and Boris Johnson during a reception at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday in which Mr Trudeau appears to mock Mr Trump over an impromptu 40-minute press conference.

The US President cut short his attendance at the summit after the footage emerged, and said Canadian PM Trudeau was “two-faced”.

In the advert, former vice president Mr Biden says: “The world sees Trump for what he is: insincere, ill-informed, corrupt, dangerously incompetent, and incapable, in my view of world leadership.”

He adds that if the Republican president wins another term next year “we’ll have a great deal of difficulty of ever being able to recover America’s standing in the world”.

Mr Biden, who released his advert 30 minutes after Mr Trump arrived back in America, said: “I never say anything negative about a president while… that president is abroad.”
