X-Force looks like it's found a scribe in The A-Team's Joe Carnahan.

The writer/director, who is also behind the likes of Smokin' Aces and The Grey, will next pen the X-Men spinoff movie, according to Collider.

That's on top of helming Bad Boys 3, working on the upcoming The Raid remake and scripting Shawn Levy's Uncharted. So it looks like he has his work cut out for him.

While no director has been announced for X-Force yet, we wouldn't be completely surprised if producers hand Carnahan the gig as well, given his CV.

Details on X-Force have largely been kept under wraps so far, though we do know it will follow the titular group of mutants, who are rougher than the X-Men and take a more militant approach against their enemies.

However, it may follow the tone of last year's Deadpool, according to producer Paul Wernick, and it's not surprising considering two of the most prominent X-Force members, Cable and Domino, are both expected to appear in Deadpool 2.

"The different universes tend to have different tones, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe has a very specific, genius tone that was set in Iron Man and has lived well beyond that into the other movies," Wernick said.

"DC tends to have its own tone, which is this dark, gritty tone. The X-Men have their own tone, which is kind of somewhere in between. Not too funny, not too light. But not quite as dark as the DC stuff.

"And I think what we stumbled into was a new tone, and I haven't seen Logan, so it's tough to say if they have it, but I think we hope to have our own universe that is defined less by characters and timelines and things like that and more by tone.

"The hope is Deadpool 2 and X-Force and future movies all be this new, consistent, sillier tone. More self-aware tone. And edgier and rated-R tone."
