Brummie comedian Joe Lycett has shed some light on becoming a father - as he showered praise on NHS staff from the city. The Late Night Lycett star surprised everyone by announceing he became a father last month.

Now, he has described fatherhood as a "total delight". Many believed Joe saying he had his first child with his mystery girlfriend was one of his notorious pranks.

However, in his newsletter, the TV personality expressed gratitude for the support from his fans and described being a dad - before lavishing praise on Birmingham's Women's Hospital in a heartfelt post. He penned: 'I just want to say a big thank you to everyone who has been so lovely about my news (you may have seen on Instagram or in the press that I have just welcomed a son).... I'm finding fatherhood to be a total delight."

He added: "To confirm, he's defo not a stunt (although I appreciate I've cried wolf enough that might not be convincing) and as promised I will be appearing on the _Parenting Hell_podcast in the near future."

The Kings Heath comedian has always kept his love life private, having only mentioned once on his show, Late Night Lycett, that he had a girlfriend, without providing any further details about the relationship.

In October, the comedian joyfully announced his entry into fatherhood, expressing his gratitude to the Women's Hospital in a heartfelt post. He said: "An appreciation post from me for the extraordinary @bham_womens hospital.

"My first encounter with them was years ago when they looked after a pal of mine through surgery, and then most recently when they masterfully welcomed a little boy into the world, who happens to be my son.

"The care and compassion his mum and he received was exceptional; from the antenatal classes, incredible midwives, consultants, doctors, nurses and the ongoing care in the community. We also loved their baked potatoes.

"Birmingham is so lucky to have them and I will be forever grateful for everything they've done."
