He's a proud local lad and next month, Joe McElderry is pulling out all the stops to help kick start the celebrations for the first ever Pride in South Tyneside, with a concert packed full of fun, music and love. And Little Mix star Jade Thirlwall will also be opening the doors of her bar to host the official after party.

It's now been nearly 15 years since South Shields singer Joe triumphed on ITV talent show The X Factor and, since them, his career has taken him all over Europe, with him playing lead roles in the likes of Joseph and Club Tropicana, as well as joining the cast of Newcastle Theatre Royal's annual pantomime and entertaining packed houses all over the UK and beyond with his own shows.

And on Friday, July 19 Joe will be turning all his attention on home turf, when he hosts a massive Pride Party at the Customs House, a venue he is definitely no stranger to. The event, which will see Joe joined by some well known drag queens and feature games and singalongs, as well as live performances, is one of a number different events in the diary to mark the inaugural Pride in South Tyneside.

talking to ChronicleLive about his Pride Party, Joe said: "I'm really thrilled to be doing the party. I was asked to be part of the month long celebrations for South Tyneside Pride, which is also in connection with Out North East, which is Pride celebrations all night long - with festivals, concerts, screenings across Sunderland, Gateshead and South Tyneside."

On what people can expect on the night, Joe added: "It's going to be fun most of all and celebrating love, acceptance and inclusivity. Just a huge celebration of music and much more. It's going to be a jam packed, high energy show, with some guests as well and I can't wait to do it in one of my favourite venues."
