Joel Dommett announced as host of rescheduled National Television Awards

Joel Dommett has been announced as the host for the postponed National Television Awards.

The Masked Singer presenter will front the ceremony when it's broadcast live on Thursday 9 September after being pushed back from its original January slot due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“It’s a huge honour to be hosting the NTAs this year! It still feels like someone has made a wonderful error,” the 35-year-old said.

“I really, really love TV and can’t wait to celebrate the best stuff from what’s been a very weird year or so.

“I’m also really hoping The Masked Singer wins something so I can present an award to myself. That’s a creative narcissist’s DREAM!”

The event will be held at the O2 Arena in London.

NTAs producer Kim Turberville said of Dommett's new role: “There is a wealth of great television to recognise and we are delighted to have Joel at the helm.

“With his wit and natural charisma, he’ll definitely be bringing a fresh approach to this year’s awards.”

The last person to host the awards was David Walliams in 2020. Prior to that, Dermot O'Leary had presented the ceremony for 10 years having taken over from Trevor McDonald who steered the proceedings for 13 years.

Eamonn Holmes was the first person to present the awards when they began back in 1995.

Fans will be able to vote for this year's long list from next week on Tuesday 25 May at nationaltvawards.com.

Dommett also returns to ITV next week as The Masked Dancer makes its debut.
