Fans of Altered Carbon who haven't seen Game of Thrones or Doctor Who may be struggling to accept that the lead actor of their favourite show has departed, with a new face stepping up to front the series.

Joel Kinnaman played the character of Takeshi Kovacs in season one of the Netflix hit, and recently it was announced that Marvel star Anthony Mackie (Sam Wilson, aka the Falcon) will take over.

Defending the recasting against any backlash, Kinnaman exclusively told Digital Spy: "That was always the intention of the show, and I thought that that was a very cool concept, that the character would continue, but a new actor would play him for each season.

"So I wouldn’t be surprised if in another season, we see a woman playing the same character. That’s the possibility when people can change bodies."

Mackie isn't the only Marvel star that the show has added for its second season. It's also cast Simone Missick, who played Detective Misty Knight in Netflix's Luke Cage, and Dina Shihabi, who appeared in Daredevil as Neda Kazemi.

The writer of the novels the TV series is based on, Richard K Morgan, has previously said the show could run for a total of five seasons, so there's plenty of opportunity to recast all your faves and wind the fans up.
