The National Television Awards always kick off with some sort of comedy sketch and 2019 was no different.

Last year's show saw 24 Hours in A&E and Doctor Foster cross over as Dermot O'Leary tried to stop Piers Morgan taking over his hosting gig, and we wondered how they would top it this time.

Well, how about with some incredibly clever editing which made it look like Dermot was in the car with Bodyguard's David Budd? Dermot and David argued over which route to take, with Dermot receiving threats that, once again, someone else might have to take over the show.

But this time, it wasn't Piers! As the voiceover announced a change to the night's plans, none other than Torchwood and I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! star John Barrowman took to the stage.

He razzled and dazzled us with a musical number about the NTAs, and it was as fabulous as you would expect:

And viewers loved him too:

Dermot took the mic back at the end, and kicked things off with jokes about Holly Willoughby presenting every show on ITV, and Piers threatening to go vegan if he wins over Ant and Dec.

Don't worry about John, though – he hosted an edition of This Morning yesterday and viewers loved him.

Digital Spy have you got you covered for everything NTAs, from a live blog detailing all the biggest moments from the show, to a list of all the winners that will be updated as they are announced.
