John Barrowman, star of geeky TV shows and the occasional musical, has undergone emergency surgery after he collapsed from appendicitis.

The Doctor Who and Arrow favourite uploaded a video on Facebook from a hospital bed to tell fans what happened and assure them he was okay:

Explaining that he had his appendix out, the star joked with his family that he had three holes ("one big hole and three little ones now") in him, which he cheekily said he might show off to his fans later. Oh, Barrowman...

He added that he'll soon be allowed solid food, and over the next day or so, the doctor (not that one) will tell him if he can go home or not.

In an earlier video on Instagram, Barrowman explained that he was woken up at 6am and rushed to surgery.

I am out of surgery. Feel like I have been hit by a bus. Jb

Following the surgery, he explained that the tube had made his voice very sore and he felt like he had been hit by a bus.

The star also shared a picture of himself wearing fan-made TARDIS socks:

Got my fan made #TARDIS socks on keeping my feet warm in the hospital. JB

Arrow executive producer Marc Guggenheim recently told Digital Spy that the door was open for Barrowman to return as Malcolm Merlyn to DC's line-up of superhero TV shows.

As far as a Torchwood return goes, Barrowman himself said that "certain egos" were stopping it from happening.

That being said, he doesn't seem to hold a grudge against the Doctor Who team, and was very excited as the casting of Jodie Whittaker.
