John Bishop's one career moment that people won't let him forget
John Bishop has spoken about the moment in his career that people continue to ask him about despite it being more than 10 years ago. The scouse comedian recently featured on the Have A Word podcast, hosted by Liverpool comedian Adam Rowe, where he revealed that people continue to come up to him about his appearance on BBC's Top Gear.
While appearing on the popular podcast, which has soared in popularity in recent years, he spoke about the time he appeared on the show in 2011. While discussing the highest speeds they had been in a car, the 57-year-old decided to share what it was like to try the "Star in a Reasonably Priced Car" challenge.
He said: "I won the Star in a Reasonably Priced Car. I beat Tom Cruise." He went on to explain how he went round the course with the Stig before having two attempts at the time trial. But he claims Hollywood A-lister Tom Cruise had seven tries at the time trial which left him top of the leader board.

He added: "I'm not into cars really, I'm not not into fast cars apart from when I'm on the (motorway) toll, I'm, not really into flashy cars or anything like that so I turned up with no expectation whatsoever and I was in a Kia and I just thought 'It's not my car, I just don't care if I crash it because there's no consequence to it'.
"So I just bombed it, I just enjoyed the fact I was doing it and bombing it. My God the amount of people who spoke to me about it, of all the things you do in your career, of all the things you think is the rich tapestry of the life I have created and I still get people coming up saying 'oh you beat Tom Cruise' because it's such a popular show. It was massive."
Earlier this month, John left his audience in tears during a show at the Empire Theatre as he made an emotional tribute to his late mum who died in March last year. The ECHO's reviewer, Conaill Corner, said: "Towards the end of the show, he speaks about his mum, who died last year. While holding back his tears, many in the audience - myself included - also began to tear up until he suddenly brings us all back with an outrageous joke - a common theme throughout the performance.
"John Bishop's 'Back At It' is more than just a comedy show. Yes, it's extremely funny, but it's also personal and emotional. The comedian opens up in a way that we have never seen before, but does so with his usual man-of-the-people humour and relatable wit. It's a reminder that, whatever obstacles you may face in life, comedy is the greatest cure."
