John Boyega has revealed landing a role in Star Wars has hindered his love life.

The 25-year-old actor was dumped when the girl he was with learned that he was one of the lead roles in The Force Awakens.

Boyega recalled the unlucky in love moment on The Graham Norton Show, saying: “It was perfect. I went on a date in New York City and as we were driving through Times Square she asked, ‘What do you do for a living?’

“I just pointed up at the Star Wars billboard that showed me with a lightsaber and said, ‘That!’ That was the end of the relationship – the poster really affected her.”

The Peckham-born actor – who shot to fame as Finn in the epic sci-fi franchise – revealed that Orlando Bloom gave him advice on his love life before Episode VIII came out.

“He told me to try and secure the love of my life before all the fame stuff starts,” he said.

Boyega recently opened up about his dating history, telling ES magazine that he used to treat his dates to a McDonald’s.

“If you were getting the premium dating package back then you were getting taken to Peckham McDonald’s and the cinema across the street,” he said. “Done. That was all I could afford.”

Boyega was joined on Norton’s red sofa by Bloom – who revealed he was attacked by a 150lb Rottweiler for his new film Unlocked – and Amy Schumer and Goldie Hawn who were promoting their new film, Snatched.

Entertainment came courtesy of Lucie Jones, who performed the UK’s Eurovision entry Never Give Up On You.

The Graham Norton Show is on BBC1, tonight at 10:35pm.
