When Alf unwittingly stops the mystery arsonist from setting fire to the bait shop, Kat realises the situation is urgent. Buoyed by Alf's confirmation that the perpetrator is male, and the discovery of a silver lighter which may contain fingerprints, she resolves to catch the guy before he offends again.
When the fingerprint report from the silver lighter reveals a match, Kat is shocked to discover the identity of the arsonist – John Palmer.
Oblivious to the revelation, John is home for lunch, seriously unwell. His vision is blurred and when Marilyn realises he's struggling, she tries to help him to the couch. Soon afterwards, John collapses to the floor and starts to suffer an uncontrollable seizure. Terrified, Marilyn screams for help as John finally succumbs to his condition.
Meanwhile, Justin discovers what Phoebe has done but is not angry with her. He explains that she's going through a difficult enough time and that her motives weren't malicious. Realising what a caring and considerate person Justin is, Phoebe urges him to fight for Ava as she should be able to know her father.
Justin decides to do whatever it takes to gain access to Ava, starting with speaking to a lawyer. His hopes are soon dashed when he learns that his time in witness protection is going to make a court case for access to Ava long and costly. But just when Justin has given up all hope, Nina finally responds to Phoebe's message – she wants to meet up that afternoon.
