John Lennon's Famous Round Glasses Sell For £14,000

The iconic pair of round glasses worn by The Beatles’ John Lennon have sold at auction for £14,400.
 
The piece of musical history was put under the hammer by Omega Auctions on behalf of Lennon's housekeeper, who once aunctioned his tooth for £23,000.

The Windsor glasses were given to Dorothy 'Dot' Jarlett, John Lennon's housekeeper in 1965 when he lived in Surrey.

Lennon had heard Dot's brother was going to a Just William fancy dress party and was desperate for items to make him look like a schoolboy and since Lennon had a few pairs, he happily handed Dot a set.

When her brother returned them after the party, Dot ended up keeping the glasses and her family inherited them when she died.

Auctioneer Paul Fairweather, 34, said: 'What's nice is that they also come with a really strong story. There have been glasses of Lennon's sold before but none have ever had a story as strong as this one.'

Also in the auction were divorce documents, which are Lennon's housekeeper's account of why John's relationship to his first wife Cynthia broke down.

Omega specialise in musical treasures and have previously sold Elvis Presley's bible for £50,000.
