John Lewis is about to become the biggest employer of 'elves' on the UK high street
The festive season is approaching, John Lewis has opened its Christmas shop, and now the UK's leading department store is on the hunt for elves.
Yes, you read that correctly – John Lewis is looking for 'elf-confident' candidates to spread festive joy around the store in November and assist Santa in meeting thousands of customers at in-store events around the country.
The retailer has put out a call out for the finest and jolliest of Christmas assistants on LinkedIn. The ideal candidate needs to be confident, self-sufficient and a self-starter, and needs to posses the following skills:
Have a passion for fulfilling childhood dreams and Christmas wishes
Be comfortable working with children and dogs
Have an extensive repertoire of festive songs
Can showcase demonstrable knowledge of seasonal activities from snowman building to marshmallow toasting
Has excellent knowledge of building LEGO ® sets, specifically LEGO DUPLO and LEGO Creator.
'To help capture as many Christmas wishes as we can, we are looking for the best elves in the country to work with us in stores. We are expecting a very busy season, so only the cheeriest and most magical of applicants need apply,' John Lewis said.
From 5th November 2022, John Lewis will be offering customers the chance to meet Santa and the elves in all of its stores. Each child will meet Santa and receive a LEGO Creator or LEGO DUPLO gift.
And, as a nation of dog lovers, the retailer is allowing dogs to be photographed with Santa along with the rest of the family. Quiet sessions will also be on offer to those customers who prefer or need it.
Naomi Gillies, Partner & Retail Director at John Lewis, said: 'We are bringing a magical experience to our shops this Christmas. We’re looking for a team of Santa’s finest to help us delight customers at one of their key moments of the festive period.'

Elsewhere, the John Lewis Partnership is also recruiting more than 10,000 temporary roles across the country to meet increased Christmas demand. The job openings comprises roles in both Waitrose and John Lewis shops , as well as distribution network.
