Christmas advert season is almost upon us, when retailers across the country start rolling out their offerings for the festive period.

The likes of Iceland, Asda and Argos have already launched their campaigns for this year, while others will release their contributions over the coming days.

Once upon a time, the Coca-Cola advert became synonymous with the start of Christmas, but recent years have seen the torch handed over to John Lewis, with its annual instalment sparking fresh hype for December 25.

The retailer is yet to unveil its hotly anticipated ad, but this hasn't stopped the festive rumour mill from going into overdrive.

Christmas will be here before you know it, so with that in mind here's what we know about the John Lewis Christmas advert so far.

When will the John Lewis advert be released?

As always, the date is being kept quiet. The advert is usually released in the second week of November, with 2019's out the 15th.

In 2017 and 2016, the ads were out on November 10 while the 2015 ad was out four days earlier.

Basically, it will be soon.

Who’s going to be singing in the advert this year?

It's all very hush-hush at the moment. John Lewis is managing to keep its cards incredibly close to its chest, so at the moment we're just relying on pure speculation.

Last year Elton John was famously the star of the show, in an ad which saw the singer sat at the piano at home before it went backwards through his life.

Previous artists to lend their voice to the John Lewis ad have included Lily Allen and Gabrielle Aplin.

Lewis Capaldi has been heavily tipped to be the voice of the 2019 campaign, with the Scottish crooner the bookies' favourite.

What have previous adverts been about?

Sir Elton starred in last year's video, called The Boy & The Piano. It saw a 71-year-old Sir Elton sat at the piano at home, playing the first few notes of his famous hit Your Song. From there, it works backwards through his life, from some of his best-known gigs, to him in the recording studio and finally to him as a young boy receiving a piano from his mother and grandmother for Christmas.

It ended with Sir Elton sat at the same piano in the present day and the tag line: “Some gifts are more than just a gift.”

It marked the first time the retailer partnered with a celebrity for their Christmas advert.

In 2017 we saw the introduction of Moz the Monster and his friendship with schoolboy Joe, while 2016 introduced us to Buster the Boxer.
