John Lewis’s Christmas Advert Is Here - Twitter Reacts To Tear Jerker ‘Man On The Moon’

It’s that time of year again when we stock up on a lifetime supply of Kleenex and cry enough tears to fill the River Nile - John Lewis have revealed their annual Christmas advert and it’s another tear jerker.

Yep, crying at the John Lewis Christmas advert is now as much of a tradition during the festive period as mince pies, Christmas pudding and leaving treats out for Santa and his reindeer.

This year’s advert is soundtracked by a gorgeous cover of Oasis’ ‘Half The World Away’, performed by Norwegian singer Aurora Aksnes, 19, who’s sure to storm to the top of the charts with the track.

It follows the touching story of a girl who sees a man on the moon through her telescope.

After attempting to wave to him and send him various letters, she eventually manages to send him a Christmas present attached to Helium balloons.

That present? A telescope of his own, which he uses to see all the Christmas celebrations on Earth.

Anyone else weeping like there’s no tomorrow? Well done, John Lewis.

John Lewis will be selling Man on the Moon mugs and cards to raise money for Age UK, and raise awareness of how a million elderly people can go for a whole month without speaking to anyone.

Customer director Craig Inglis explained: “Our Christmas advert is once again all about going the extra mile to give someone the perfect gift.

“This year though, the story is told in a uniquely creative and engaging way as we see Lily, our heroine, go to great lengths to connect with the Man on the Moon.

“We hope it inspires people to find really special gifts for their loved ones and through our partnership with Age UK, raises awareness of the issue of loneliness amongst older people and encourages others to support in any way they can.”

As per usual, Twitter has been reacting like crazy to the new advert, with many people having to wipe the tears away to be able to see what they’re actually typing.

In the first hour alone, there were 22,429 tweets and retweets about #ManOnTheMoon, with that hashtag trending along with Christmas advert, crying, sad, need tissues, love.

The most ‘emotions’ words tweeted about the advert so far are love, cried, sad, excited, and happy, which doesn’t surprise us at all.

Oh, and the poor John Lewis in Virgina who often gets tweets about the company despite having no connection to them? He’s already had 437 tweets about it.

Sorry, John. It’s tough to see what you’re tweeting through the tears.
