The Great British Bake Off returned on Tuesday night (March 5) with a celebrity special in aid of Stand Up to Cancer.

Putting their baking skills to the test for a good cause were Hollywood actor John Lithgow (of 3rd Rock from the Sun and The Crown fame), comedian Jon Richardson, Paralympian Hannah Cockroft and Russell Brand.

Of course, the appearance of Russell alongside host Noel Fielding meant we had a Goth Detectives reunion! Even if Noel's new blonde hairdo was making him look a little less goth than usual.

And let's not forget that the appearance of John Lithgow meant we got the Trinity Killer, Winston Churchill and Lord Farquaad all rolled into one.

The first challenge faced by the celebrities was to make a batch of 12 perfectly-identical brownies.

Each celeb had very different ideas to make their bake stand out, with Russell going for a West Ham theme, John decorating his with British and American flags, Hannah making hers taste of cookies and cream, and Jon going vegan.

Russell's proved divisive for judges Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood, with Prue calling them overcooked, while Paul thought they were delicious. But it was John's that stood out, even if his flags weren't entirely accurate.

Next was the technical challenge set by Prue, where the celebs had to make an orange and black Swiss roll, which was meant to represent the Stand Up to Cancer colours, but instead came off looking a little more Dennis the Menace.

Sadly, John had never heard of a Swiss roll and he got in even more trouble when the baking began and he messed up his recipe and had to start again.

Unsurprisingly, John ended up in last place, with Russell next, Hannah second and Jon first thanks to his 'perfect but not the right size' bake.

But it was the showstopper challenge where the celebs really got to show their creativity, as they had to depict their finest performances in a 3D biscuit scene.

Russell chose to recreate the birth of his second daughter in biscuit form, which led to Prue getting to say the line 'so you’ve got this great big vagina'.

Hannah celebrated her Paralympic win, while Jon remembered his performance as the donkey in his primary school nativity play and John chose to recreate a scene from The Crown.

While John's bake certainly looked magnificent, it was Russell's imaginative biscuit vagina that helped him win Star Baker.

But even though he didn't walk away with the apron, there was a lot of love for John from viewers who wanted him to be the American baking uncle they never had.

The Great Celebrity Bake Off for Stand Up to Cancer continues next Tuesday (March 12) at 8pm on Channel 4.
