Yahoo News John Oliver criticises Biden administration for sending vulnerable Haitians back into harm’s way
On Sunday’s Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, the host took issue with the Biden administration’s immigration policies after the recent events in del Rio, Texas, where thousands of Haitan migrants were met at the border by agents on horseback, appearing to use their horse's reins like whips. And Oliver began by criticizing the messaging from the White House.
Oliver also went into title 42, a Trump immigration policy being used by the Biden administration to turn away asylum seekers under the guise of public health. And even worse, how they’re treated once they are sent away. After playing a clip of a migrant describing being chained up “like animals” when they are sent back on airplanes, Oliver wasn’t happy.
“That is despicable,” he said.

JOHN OLIVER: His administration's record on immigration, particularly on the southern border, has been deeply underwhelming.
KYLIE MAR: On "Last Week Tonight with John Oliver" Sunday, the host took issue with the Biden administration's immigration policy, specifically after the recent events in Del Rio, Texas, where thousands of Haitian migrants were met at the border by agents on horseback appearing to use their horses' rains like whips. And one of Oliver's issues starts with the messaging from the White House.
- This is not who we are. That's not who the Biden-Harris administration is.
JOHN OLIVER: Well, hold on there because saying this is not who we are about white people chasing Black people on horses is a bit of a stretch. Historically, we've been yes anding that idea since 1619.
KYLIE MAR: Oliver also broke down Title 42, a Trump immigration policy being used by the Biden administration to turn away asylum seekers under the guise of Public Health, and even worse, how they're treated after they are sent away.

INTERPRETER: They chained us like animals. They chained our hands, feet, and waste. Once we arrived, they made us stay inside the plane until they unchained us, so the journalists wouldn't see what they did.
JOHN OLIVER: That is despicable.
KYLIE MAR: And as he compared the process for deciding who gets sent back to the process for finding a new "Jeopardy" host, John said, the lack of clarity is ultimately hurting people.
JOHN OLIVER: All of this is emblematic of a much larger confusion, with one White House official even saying I don't know what our immigration strategy is at all, but we badly need one and right now. Because we're currently sending vulnerable people back into harm's way, and it is past time for this administration to stop simply telling people who we are and start [BLEEP] showing them.
