John Oliver says it’s 'hard to pick a low point' in Dr. Oz’s 'sh*t show' campaign

On Last Week Tonight With John Oliver in the past, Oliver took shots at Dr. Oz for reportedly pushing fake treatments on his show. On Sunday, Oliver took aim at Oz’s senate campaign in Pennsylvania. Despite receiving former President Trump’s endorsement, in Oliver’s mind, Oz’s campaign is not going well.

“Trump has endorsed Dr. Oz, and we’ve talked about Dr. Oz’s daytime snake oil carnival in detail before,” Oliver said. “So I didn’t think his campaign could surprise me, but it has, because it’s been a sh*t show.”

Oz has tried to win over Pennsylvania voters by posting videos of himself at the grocery store or filling his car with gas, and taking that opportunity to point at the prices and take shots at President Biden. He has though, in the past, posted videos of his lavish lifestyle and is reportedly worth at least $100 million in assets, so Oliver isn’t buying the indignation. Oliver played a video of Oz wakeboarding in Italy to prove his point.

“That is Dr. Oz wake surfing with the caption ‘Surfin’ through #Italy’ to the song “My Life Be Like.” And the truth is, that is what his life be like because he’s f**king rich, which means he gets to do stuff like that,” Oliver said. “But what he doesn’t get to do though, is stand in front of gas pumps and pretend like he’s personally affected by those numbers.”

Oliver believes that, despite the countless hours Oz has spent in front of a camera, his videos could be his downfall.

“Maybe that shift to the right and the Trump endorsement will help him win, but if that happens, it’ll be pretty remarkable,” Oliver said. “Because for a man who’s made a career out of talking into a camera, it is amazing how bad he’s been at doing that during this campaign. It’s honestly hard to pick a low point.”

JOHN OLIVER: Trump has endorsed Dr. Oz. And we've talked about Dr. Oz's daytime snake oil carnival in detail before, so I didn't think his campaign could surprise me, but it has because it's been a [BLEEP] show.

- On Last Week Tonight with John Oliver Sunday, Oliver took aim at Dr. Oz's campaign for Senate in Pennsylvania. Oz has been posting videos of himself at the grocery store and pumping gas in order to take shots at President Biden over the prices. But as Oz has also posted videos of his lavish lifestyle and is reportedly worth hundreds of millions of dollars, Oliver isn't buying the indignation.

JOHN OLIVER: That is Dr. Oz wake surfing with the caption, "surfing through #Italy to the song My Life Be Like. And the truth is, that is what his life be like because he's [BLEEP] rich, which means he gets to do stuff like that. But what he doesn't get to do, though, is stand in front of gas pumps and pretend he's personally affected by those numbers.

- Former president Donald Trump recently endorsed Oz, a move that has received backlash, as many Republicans don't want him as the candidate in November. In fact, Oz's entering of the race was reportedly met with widespread mockery among Pennsylvania republicans.

Oz has tried to win over Republicans with gun rights and anti-abortion posts on social media, but Oliver believes the doctor's videos could be his downfall, despite having spent countless hours in front of a camera.

JOHN OLIVER: Maybe that shift to the right and the Trump endorsement will help him win. But if that happens, it'll be pretty remarkable. Because for a man who's made a career out of talking into a camera, it is amazing how bad he's been at doing that during this campaign. It's honestly hard to pick a low point.
