John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum has knocked Avengers: Endgame off the top of the US box office, perhaps jeopardising the Marvel film's chances of becoming the highest-grossing film of all time.

But let's face it, if there was anyone who was going to stop the Avengers and Thanos in their tracks, it would be Keanu Reeves' invincible assassin John Wick.

His third outing has gone straight to the top of the US box office, pulling in an estimated franchise best of $57 million in its opening weekend, which is more than the first John Wick film took in total in the US.

In second place, Avengers: Endgame still took $29.4 million this weekend, bringing its domestic total $770 million, which surpasses Avatar. But it still has a little way to go if it's to top James Cameron's sci-fi epic worldwide, which sits at $2.7 billion.

Endgame currently has an estimated worldwide haul of $2.5 billion, surpassing Infinity War's total of $2.05 billion to become Marvel's most financially successful title to date.

Continuing to break records, the film surpassed the $2 billion mark at the global box office on Saturday (May 4), just 11 days after its release. That makes it the fastest film ever to break the $2 billion threshold, smashing Avatar's record of 47 days.

John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum and Avengers: Endgame are both in cinemas now.
