Johnny Depp Gives First Public Interview Since Amber Heard’s Domestic Abuse Allegations

Johnny Depp has given his first public interview since news of his acrimonious divorce from Amber Heard emerged.

The actor, 53, appeared on the Jonesy’s Jukebox radio talk show on Sunday (June 26) with his fellow Hollywood Vampires bandmates – Matt Sorum, Robert DeLeo and Bruce Within.

During the 50-minute interview Depp discussed his music career, sharing the origin of the rock supergroup and some behind-the-scenes stories from their European tour – but made no mention of his highly publicised ongoing legal battle with Heard, 30, who filed for divorce in May.

Instead, he revealed how he stumbled into acting while also trying to pursue music, as a teenager.

“I’ve [been a musician] since I was little – since I was 12 I’ve played,” he said. “I started playing clubs when I was like 13 in Miami.”

Speaking to his host, the former Sex Pistols guitarist Steve Jones, Depp confessed: “I needed to pay rent. Somebody said, ‘Why don’t you go and meet an agent. My agent is with Nick Cage,’ so she sent me on an audition for something and I got it.”

Depp continued to speak candidly about the topics that were on the table for discussion, admitting that he enjoys acting and preparing for roles, but he doesn’t like the promotional aspect of the process.

“The drag is all the hoopla that happens when a film opens, that’s the part I hate. I don’t watch the movies so for me all I have is the experience. So when you show up at one of those things you’ve got to pedal your a*** for film I don’t know what [happens].”

Despite Depp’s aversion to press attention, he hasn’t been able to avoid the headlines lately after his wife claimed that he had physically and emotionally abused her during their 15-month marriage.

Consequently, the Hollywood actress was granted a temporary restraining order – which has just been extended for two more months.

Meanwhile, a Los Angeles court hearing has been scheduled for August 15th and 16th whereby Heard will request a permanent restraining order against Depp.
