Yahoo News Johnny Depp's Daughter Defends 'Loving Dad'
Johnny Depp's teenage daughter has written of her support for her father following domestic violence claims made by the actor's estranged wife.
Amber Heard, 30, appeared in court on Friday with a bruise on her cheek , saying Depp, 52, had thrown her mobile phone at her during a fight.
Heard, who filed for divorce from the actor last week, was granted a restraining order against him.
Model Lily-Rose Depp, 17, did not directly address the allegations, but posted a childhood picture on Instagram.
The photo appears to show her as a baby with Depp holding her hands to help her walk.
She wrote: "My dad is the sweetest most loving person I know, he's been nothing but a wonderful father to my little brother and I, and everyone who knows him would say the same."
Lily-Rose is one of Depp's two children with French singer-actress Vanessa Paradis.
Celebrity news website TMZ has posted a photo of a handwritten letter that it said it obtained from Paradis.
In it she describes Depp as "a sensitive, loving and loved person".
"I believe with all my heart that these recent allegations being made are outrageous, in all the years I have known Johnny, he has never been physically abusive with me and this looks nothing like the man I lived with for 14 wonderful years," the note said.
The letter is signed by Paradis and dated Friday in Los Angeles.
Depp met Heard on the set of the 2011 film The Rum Diary, when he was still in a relationship with Paradis.
His ex-partner and daughter's support come as Depp's new film Alice Through The Looking Glass flopped on its debut weekend.
The big-budget movie, directed by James Bobin, has taken just $28.1m in North American cinemas, after critics panned it as "uninspired", "hollow" and "lacklustre".
With a production cost of around $170m, the Alice in Wonderland sequel - in which Depp plays the Mad Hatter - had been expected to open with takings of around $60m.
X-Men: Apocalypse opened top of the Memorial Day weekend with an estimated $65m.
The latest X-Men instalment from 20th Century Fox is on track for takings of about $80m by Monday.
