Netflix doc questions if beauty queen JonBenet Ramsey was murdered by a paedophile ring

The case of the six-year-old beauty queen who was found in the basement of her parents’ home in Boulder, Colorado, in 1996 gripped and outraged the world.

There have always been two main theories as to how JonBenét died. Firstly, that the crime was committed by a family member and secondly, that an intruder broke into the Ramsey home and wrote the bizarre ransom note.

The little girl’s family was finally cleared of her murder in 2008 – two years after her mother Patsy died of Ovarian cancer – and they were subsequently issued an apology from Boulder police.

Now, a shocking new Netflix documentary that is set to air on Friday will claim that JonBenét was, in fact, murdered by a paedophile ring.

The Sun reports that during the making of ‘Casting JonBenét’ locals in the family’s town insisted that a sex ring was operating around the time of the little girl’s death and that it was a lead that should have been “investigated” by authorities.

Documentary makers cast actors to play the roles of Patsy and John Ramsey, brother Burke Ramsey, paedophile John Mark Carr – who falsely confessed to the killing – and members of the police department.

One said: “There was a lot of talk that there was a child porn ring going on in Boulder.”

Another says: “It’s always somebody you know, 9 times out of 10 it’s always somebody you know.

“What you find is a lot of white collar crime, and possibly the child porn angle with everybody was just like ‘why isn’t this investigated?”

“This is Boulder, that is what you have to deal with, but I thought there was some sort of sexual escapade that got out of hand.”

The film goes into detail about the effect the murder and allows those who lived nearby to discuss their theories on JonBenét’s final moments.

The blonde youngster’s brutalised body was found on Boxing Day in the cellar of her family home and just hours earlier Patsy called 911 claiming she had been kidnapped.

A ransom note demanding $118,000 was also found at the scene.

No one was ever charged with her murder and last year JonBenét’s brother Burke – who was nine years old when she died – sued a forensic pathologist for $150m after he alleged Burke killed his sister when they argued over a bowl of pineapple.

Another possible suspect was registered sex offender and known pedophile Gary Oliva.

A CBS program says that Oliva called a close friend after the murder and said he had “done something horrible” and when he was arrested in 2000, a photograph of JonBenét was found among his personal property, as well as a poem called “Ode to JonBenet.”

He denied committing the crime in an interview with CBS, and was arrested last year on child porn charges.

Casting JonBenet is released on Netflix this Friday.
