Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson will captain England in their friendly against Netherlands on Friday, manager Gareth Southgate has confirmed.

The Three Lions boss has rotated the armband since Wayne Rooney’s international retirement, with Harry Kane, Eric Dier and Gary Cahill all having lead the side under Southgate.

Furthermore, Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford will be handed a chance to claim the No.1 shirt ahead of the World Cup.

With no stand-out first-choice ‘keeper, the former Sunderland man will be keen to impress, and Southgate says he’s all the attributes needed to succeed.

“Jordan Pickford will play in goal tomorrow,” Southgate told reporters.

“He’s very agile, very quick around his goal and capable of making big saves.

“His distribution is outstanding, which is a key part of how we want to play, it’s a good opportunity for him, he played well against Germany in November and it’s another good chance for us to see him in an international game.”

Following the friendly in Amsterdam, the Three Lions will travel back to London before taking on Italy at Wembley on Tuesday.
