A third man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of footballer Jordan Sinnott.

Nottinghamshire Police said they detained a 20-year-old man on Monday, just hours after the arrests of two men aged 21.

Mr Sinnott, 25, a Matlock Town midfielder, was found unconscious after an assault in the centre of Retford, Nottinghamshire at about 2am on Saturday.

He suffered a suspected fractured skull and later died in hospital.

A fourth man, named as Connor Woodcock, 27, of Retford, was arrested on Saturday on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

He has since been charged with causing grievous bodily harm and actual bodily harm in connection with a separate assault, understood to have taken place in the area after Mr Sinnott was injured.

He is due to appear at Mansfield Magistrates’ Court later on Monday.

Two men were injured in this later confrontation, with a 27-year-old man left with a suspected broken nose and a 44-year old man suffering a suspected broken jaw.

In a statement on the ongoing inquiry into Mr Sinnott’s death, Nottinghamshire Police said officers were first called to the Dominie Cross pub in Grove Street, Retford, after receiving reports that a group of up to eight men and women were involved in a disturbance in the car park at about 11.25pm on Friday.

Detectives do not now believe that this earlier incident was connected to Mr Sinnott’s death.

Detective Inspector Justine Wilson, who is leading the investigation, said: “I would like to thank the community for the response to our appeals yesterday, which has been really helpful.

“We still need to hear from anyone who has not yet come forward. Any piece of information they can give, however small it seems, could be vital.

“We are aware of a video circulating on social media which appears to show the assault of a man at a train station. I can confirm that this video is not connected to the death of Jordan Sinnott.”

Matlock Town said on Sunday that their fixture against Grantham Town on Tuesday had been postponed due to the “tragic events”, after they had previously cancelled Saturday’s game against Mickleover Sports.

In a tribute to Mr Sinnott on Twitter, the club said: “You weren’t just a footballer, you were our friend and brother.

“You gave us incredible memories and scored your first career hat-trick in your final game for the club. Rest easy Jordan, we love, miss and will never forget you.”
