Man falsely accused of rape by fantasist Eleanor Williams says people are 'still on her side'

One of the men who was falsely accused of rape by fantasist Eleanor Williams has spoken out about his ordeal – and claims some people still believe her.

Williams, of Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, was jailed for eight-and-a-half years at Preston Crown Court on Tuesday after making a series of false rape allegations.

Jordan Trengove, one of those who was at the centre of Williams’ claims, spent time in custody and revealed he tried to take his own life because of the allegations made against him.

And while Williams was jailed for her false claims, Mr Trengove says there are still people “on her side”.

He told The Sun: “She was getting so much support and there was so much grief. I wanted away from it all… I took an overdose but survived. Even now there are still believers on her side.

“This destroyed us all.”

Williams claimed that Mr Trengove, 22, drugged and raped her after they met on a night out in March 2019.

He was charged and spent time in custody but Mr Trengove had an alibi for the time he was supposed to be with Williams.

Despite this, Mr Trengove later had his house spray-painted with the word ‘rapist’.

Speaking after Williams was jailed, Mr Trengove told reporters he planned to take action against the police.

He said he does not believe Williams has shown any remorse and added: “I don’t think the sentence is long enough, in my opinion, for what she’s done to us all.”

Williams, 22, falsely claimed to have been the victim of an Asian grooming gang and described being beaten, abused and trafficked in a Facebook post in May 2020.

She also posted pictures of her injuries, but during her trial it was heard that she had caused them to herself, with a hammer.

Mohammed Ramzan, a business owner who Williams alleged trafficked her, said that he had received “countless death threats” because of the allegations.

Williams claimed that Mr Ramzan, 43, had groomed her from the age of 12, put her to work in brothels in Amsterdam, and sold her at an auction there.

But her trial heard that, at the time she was in the Netherlands, his bank card was being used at a B&Q in Barrow.

In January, a jury found Williams guilty of eight counts of doing acts tending and intended to pervert the course of justice.

She pleaded guilty to a ninth count at an earlier hearing.

Judge Robert Altman described the allegations as “complete fiction” during sentencing remarks on Tuesday.

Speaking after the sentencing, Superintendent Matthew Pearman, of Cumbria Police, said: “My biggest concern throughout this period has been that these false allegations would discourage genuine victims of abuse from coming forward to ourselves and our partners...

“I urge anyone who has been the victim of sexual or physical abuse to report it today. You will be listened to and supported.”
