Former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is reportedly eyeing a move for defender Victor Lindelof ahead of the January transfer window.

The Swede is unwanted at Old Trafford since Erik ten Hag performed his audit of the current squad in the summer. Attempts to sell Lindelof prior to the season beginning ended up being quashed though as the defender suffered an injury which kept him out for most of pre-season and August.

Lindelof made his return to the pitch prior to the October international break as he came on as a second half substitute in the draw with Aston Villa. However, his appearance in the West Midlands has not altered the fact that United will not be looking to extend his deal beyond this season.

This has reportedly piqued the interest of Mourinho who brought Lindelof to Old Trafford in 2017. According to Sabah, Mourinho is weighing up whether or not to make an approach for the defender in January as he looks to bolster his options in defence.

What the article does not make clear is whether Mourinho would want Lindelof to join his Fenerbahce side immediately or if he would be willing to wait until the end of the season to arrive. Players with six months or less remaining on their current contracts are free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with a club in another country, the catch being that they must wait until the expiry of their present deal to make the switch.

Mourinho is not the only one eyeing a United reunion with Lindelof though. Zlatan Ibrahimovic is thought to be ready to rival Fenerbahce in a bid to bring his fellow countryman to AC Milan.
