Brentford forward Jota was selected to start a pre-season friendly at Oxford United despite the speculation surrounding his future.

The Spaniard had previously been left out of the Bees’ squad for a warm-up game against Aldershot after his agent had informed the club on an imminent bid from a Premier League team.

Seemingly that has led to nothing, and Brentford fans will have been relieved to see him back and involved with the first-team.

Dean Smith side ran out 4-3 winners having squandered a 2-0 lead to then turn the game around again when 3-2 behind.

Jota assisted the first goal and then hit the woodwork early in the second half in what was a characteristically all-action display.

Florian Josefzoon, Lasse Vibe, Reece Cole and Sergi Canos grabbed the goals in the thrilling ncounter at The Kassam Stadium, although the inclusion of Jota is likely of more value to Brentford than the win.
