A couple from a circus on tour in North Wales are celebrating after their baby boy was born in the same hospital as his brother two years ago. Ayan arrived on Thursday at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd in Bodelwyddan. His brother Arlan was born in the same hospital in 2022 when the circus was in town that year.

Gandeys Circus is currently staging performances in the big top in Llandudno. Mum-to-be Esther Haywood had been working in the mobile ticket office there when she went into labour on Thursday.

A clown colleague jokingly offered to take her and partner Serik Zhaxybekov to hospital in his pink comedy car - although they politely declined, said a Gandeys spokesman.

A Gandey's spokesman said: "Artist Serik Zhaxybekov and his partner Esther Haywood had a little bit of drama at rehearsals as they were getting ready for Thursday's show.

"Serik was rehearsing with the team in readiness for his aerial act in front of a packed 1,000-seat audience where Gandeys is currently open as part of the spring tour. He got an urgent message over the radio from front of house informing him that his partner Esther, who was working in the Gandeys mobile box office at the front of the show, was going into labour at that very moment.

"Serik did not want to let the audience down and had already got a standby artiste waiting in the wings to step in but did not expect this again at the same venue two years later. The North Wales Live Whatsapp community for top stories and breaking news is live now - here’s how to sign up

"They were delighted as Esther was in good hands with the team last time and as Esther is a dancer herself, usually she is totally used to the spills and thrills of the circus life. Sign up for the North Wales Live newsletter sent twice daily to your inbox

"However, they decided that Bippo the clown’s kind offer to arrange a lift in his little pink comedy car was not the best mode of transport this time and opted for a more sedate and discreet vehicle."

The new member of their family was born later on Thursday evening. Gandeys' spokesman said: "He arrived at 19.18pm at Glan Clwyd Hospital, weighing 4.1kg (9 lbs)"

Dad Serik is an aerial artiste from Kazakhstan and also the tent master on Gandeys. He works all over the world for Gandeys productions. Mum Esther is a dancer. They met about four years ago and Arlan was born in June 2022.

  • Gandeys Circus is staging performances on Bodafon Fields until Bank Holiday Monday before the troupe packs away the big top and heads south to perform on Guernsey and Jersey.
