Judge Charged With Misdemeanor After Dropping Gun in Illinois Courthouse

A judge was charged with a misdemeanor after dropping his gun in a courthouse in Cook County, Illinois, on July 3. Security footage from the courthouse shows 70-year-old Judge Joseph Claps dropping the gun in front of two Sheriff’s deputies.

Clap was reassigned to non-judicial duties until further notice, according to local reports.

The judge was carrying the gun under his left arm when he dropped it. He then picked it up and put it in his pocket. He can later be seen taking it out of his pocket and putting it back under his arm. Credit: Cook County Sheriff’s Office via Storyful
