Amazon has reportedly picked up not one but TWO seasons of Julia Roberts' new show Homecoming.

The highly-anticipated drama from Mr Robot creator Sam Esmail has been hot property among potential networks, and according to Deadline, Amazon has now beaten competitors to it.

Homecoming is based upon the Gimlet Media podcast, a six-part thriller that only launched last November.

It follows a caseworker – played by Roberts in the TV show – at a secret government facility, as well as a soldier who wants to rejoin civilian life.

The original podcast includes the voices of Catherine Keener, Oscar Isaac, David Schwimmer, Amy Sedaris and David Cross.

Keener played the original role that Roberts will be taking on, and it will mark the first major TV role for the Pretty Woman star.

However, she does have history on the small screen, gaining a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for a guest appearance in Law & Order back in 1999. She has also signed up to star in limited series Today Will Be Different.

Podcast creators Eli Horowitz and Micah Bloomberg are set to write the show, while Esmail will direct and Roberts will also serve as an executive producer.

The director's other major series, Mr Robot, also streams on Amazon, so it will mark familiar territory for him.
