Tottenham Hotspur have seen their hopes of appointing Julian Nagelsmann as their next manager drastically decrease, after a report revealed his stance on the job.

Julian Nagelsmann has conveniently become available just as Tottenham have been searching for a new manager. Bayern Munich recently sacked the German tactician and replaced him with his compatriot, ex-Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel.

Tottenham, meanwhile, are trying to find someone who can replace Antonio Conte, after they recently parted company with the Italian following his outbursts against the club and put his assistant Cristian Stellini in interim charge.

There have been a few suggestions for who could become the next permanent Tottenham manager. Along with Mauricio Pochettino, Nagelsmann is one of the top candidates to get a mention most frequently.

Indeed, according to Football Insider, Tottenham have actually placed Nagelsmann above Pochettino at the top of their wish list.

However, the same source is now indicating that Nagelsmann is “not privately convinced” that Tottenham should be his next step. In fact, he is worried joining them “will damage [his] career” – and has said so to those close to him.

After winning three trophies during his spell with Bayern Munich, Nagelsmann wants to continue competing for major honours. Tottenham, of course, haven’t won a trophy since 2008.

And there isn’t currently a sense that Tottenham will be able to “immediately” change that, as the report reminds. Therefore, Nagelsmann might wait and look elsewhere, expecting to be in demand.

It complies with what TEAMtalk was recently told – that the 35-year-old would be unlikely to accept Spurs if they were to miss out on Champions League football.

Julian Nagelsmann snub might affect Harry Kane

In the bigger picture, that may be a worrying revelation for Harry Kane. The Spurs striker is considering his own future ahead of the final year of his contract.

Likewise, Kane wants to finally put some medals in his cabinet. Whether he can do so with Tottenham will be on his mind as he debates if he should stay or go.

Football Insider suggested that Kane would appreciate the appointment of Nagelsmann, potentially keeping him on board. However, he might not have the same opinion about some of the alternatives Tottenham might have to turn to.

If high-calibre coaches like Conte and Nagelsmann are spotting intrinsic issues at Tottenham, they might be at risk of having to settle for a lesser option.

That said, TEAMtalk understands that Pochettino would be open to returning for a second spell with the club. Perhaps he could be the one to restore a sense of positivity after becoming popular with Tottenham before.

Whatever happens, Spurs will simply be hoping this whole process isn’t as drawn out as when they were trying to find a replacement for Jose Mourinho two years ago.

That all culminated with them having to go back to the drawing board by appointing Nuno Espirito Santo. The former Wolves coach only lasted four months in the job, perhaps proving why Tottenham had initially ruled him out.

In an ideal world, Tottenham wouldn’t have to make compromises over who they choose this time around. But they need to send a reminder that they can be an attractive destination for talented tacticians. If not, something similar could unfold.
