It seems as though Taylor Swift has found her happily ever after with English actor Joe Alwyn, but her past romances and splits inspired some of her biggest hits. But did you know that Taylor had relationships with the likes of Harry Styles, Taylor Lautner and Calvin Harris? And that she wrote songs about most of them? Here's a look back at Taylor's Love Story and dating history…

It all started with Joe Jonas, who dated Taylor for a brief period back in 2008. Despite only dating for three months from July to October, it was a big deal for Swift who didn’t take the break-up lightly after she was dumped over text. Speaking to Ellen DeGeneres, the country star said: “When I find that person who is right for me, he’ll be wonderful, and when I look at that person, I’m not even gonna be able to remember the boy who broke up with me over the phone in 25 seconds when I was 18.” The split inspired her to write 'Forever and Always' with lyrics that read: “Was I out of line? / Did I say something way too honest, made you run and hide / Like a scared little boy.”

Taylor Squared began dating after starring in 2010 rom-com 'Valentine's Day'. The pair dated for several months in 2009 before calling it quits in December. The song 'Back to December' was inspired by their relationship. When 'Twilight' actor Taylor Lautner was asked what he thought of the song he laughed: “That’s what she does.”

The musician was more salty about their break-up than Swift herself. The couple dated briefly for three months from December 2009 to February 2010, but Mayer didn’t take it lightly when Taylor wrote 'Dear John' about him. In an interview with Rolling Stone, he said: "I never got an email. I never got a phone call. I was really caught off guard, and it really humiliated me at a time when I’d already been dressed down. I mean, how would you feel if, at the lowest you’ve ever been, someone kicked you even lower? “I will say as a songwriter that I think it’s kind of cheap songwriting. I know she’s the biggest thing in the world, and I’m not trying to sink anybody’s ship, but I think it’s abusing your talent to rub your hands together and go, ‘Wait till he gets a load of this!'"

The pair dated for around a month in Spring 2010, and her song 'Mine' - about dating a boy she "barley knew" - is believed to be about the late 'Glee' actor. Swift was shocked to discover the news of his tragic passing after he was discovered dead in a Vancouver hotel room on July 13, 2013. Paying tribute she wrote: "Speechless. And for the worst reason."

It was yet another whirlwind romance that lasted only three months. Us Weekly first broke the news of Taylor and Jake's romance back in October 2010 only to report in January 2011 that the pair had split up. A source revealed: "It was a 180-degree turn and so out of the blue. "Jake just told her it wasn’t working out ... Taylor is really upset and hurt. She doesn’t know what she did for him to put a stop to it. She feels really burned by him.” Her break-up from Jake inspired a bunch of songs on her album 'Red'. Taylor revealed that Jake spoke with her after listening to the LP, and told her “‘I just listened to the album, and that was a really bittersweet experience for me. It was like going through a photo album".

The couple sent fans into a frenzy after sparking dating rumours when they met on set of musical fantasy animation movie 'The Lorax'. The pair were gentled ribbed by talk show host Ellen DeGeneres when appearing on her eponymous show back in 2012. Ellen asked: “What did ya’ll do for Valentine's Day together?” before presenting them with four T-Shirts that read "lovers", "we're just friends", "we only hooked up once" and "we broke up". Zac joked about the "we only hooked up once" shirt saying he hopes it doesn’t shrink too much. To which DeGeneres responded: “Because you’ll wear that a lot?”

The two pop superstars first went public with their romance in December 2012 after dating for a month. They were spotted strolling on a date at Central Park Zoo, but there was only one direction for Haylor and that was South. After just three months of dating they broke up. Taylor mocked the 'Watermelon Sugar' singer during her 2013 Grammy's performance by attempting to put on a British accent.

Taylor first met Calvin at the ELLE Style Awards back in February 2015, after she was introduced to the DJ by Ellie Goulding. After being spotted together in matching outfits in Whole Foods, the couple later confirmed their relationship at the 2015 Billboard Music Awards with a kiss in front of the camera. The pair stayed in a relationship for over a year and celebrated their anniversary on March 6, 2016. Two months later, however, Calvin abruptly broke things off after accusing Taylor of cheating on with MCU actor Tom Hiddleston by giving her a taste of her own medicine through his songs. Taylor later released 'Getaway Car', on which she seemingly admitted to being unfaithful to Calvin.

Immediately after her break up with Calvin Harris, Swift moved on to 'The Avengers' star after they met at the 2016 Met Gala where they were seen enjoying a dance together. Tom went in with guns blazing by meeting her parents in Nashville. The pair were then spotted attending a Selena Gomez concert together whist Tom wore an "I Heart TS" top. After only four months together the couple broke it off in September as Swift was worried he was with her for the wrong reasons.

Has unlucky-in-love Taylor finally found her Mr. Right? Taylor and Joe Alwyn first began dating in 2016 after meeting at the Met Gala that year, with the singer describing the relationship as the "real deal". After five years of dating, The Sun newspaper reported at the end of June 2022 that the couple had secretly got engaged. The couple have always kept details of their relationship private, and intend to make sure things stay the same when they eventually tie the knot. A source said: "They want their love to stay away from the cameras as much as possible. This is just for them. "And if and when they do exchange vows, there most definitely won’t be any Vogue, Rolling Stone or Hello! magazines there. It will be simple and elegant - like them."
